People ask me....

…..how did I create my business. I say…..it came out by chance. I was lucky I guess! It was just that.

I was working part time, had 2 young children, didn’t really know what direction I was going to take after some time off to have a family. One day I got a call from a friend working in the US, he needed some help with organising some logistics on the ground in Scotland for some of his whisky clients. I completed one trip and 5 years later…..here I am.

Destination Management Scotland was born by chance, it wasn’t planned. I love travel, exploring and learning new things. Scotland really is an adventure playground so I thought why not create a business about something that I love.

In my younger days, I was a bourbon drinker so when someone came to me and said they needed some work done for whisky clients, I jumped at the chance so for the past five years I have immersed myself in the scotch whisky world and learning more about my beautiful country. I haven’t looked back.

It was actually my mum who took me to my first distillery many many years ago, it was Glenkinchie just outside of Edinburgh. I remember the smell as you first went to where the mash tuns and wash backs were. That hop smell made me go green! Little did I know 20 years later, I can’t get enough of it. It just goes to show how much tastes develop over the years. I appreciate it more now than I did back when I visited my first distillery, thats for sure!

Taking the business full time since last year has been a great experience. I have learnt a lot and have made some great friends, contacts and realised how many people love Scotland’s ‘water of life’. I want to share my experience of my visits to distilleries. I am not a writer, I am not a whisky professional. All I want to do is share my stories based on my personal experiences. That’s what blogs are about, right?

Visiting every distillery in Scotland is not only a business goal, but a personal goal. Which shows my passion for the industry. I am now on my 35th distillery visit and counting. Only about another 100 to go!

I look forward to sharing my whisky and Scotland journeys with you.
